Important update

Garmin recently (Aug 04) upgraded the internal hardware of the yellow etrex. Specifically, more memory was added, enabling larger firmware files. Although externally the new etrex is identical to the older revision , the newer firmware version 3.00 and up add the following features:

  • 125 waypoints per route (compared to 50 waypoints)
  • 20 routes (compared to 1)
  • A fifth 'Trip Computer' screen with five parameters simultaneously displayed, out of an impressive choice of 31 parameters.
  • WAAS enabled.
  • Hunt/Fish information page

So if you're in the market to purchase a new etrex - make sure its firmware is 3.00 and up, as you won't be able to upgrade older etrex devices to the new firmware.
